Course

BUSCOMM 090 Fall Protection for Residential Home Builders

Course Description

The class is designed to educate residential home builders in the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) standards as they relate to fall protection when building new homes or re-modeling existing structures.  Upon completion of the training, each student will receive a certificate from McCall College stating that the individual has received training in the fall protection requirements as outlined in the OSHA standards.

The training will cover harnesses (fall arrest systems); permanent roof anchors; safe use of ladders and rolling scaffolds; horse scaffolds; ladder jacks; and working around aerial work platforms and scissors-lifts.  The training will not qualify individuals to operate aerial work platforms and scissors-lifts nor will it provide guidance on assembling scaffolds.

The course will be taught by Jeff Riechmann, who has over 30-years of experience in OSHA compliance.  Riechmann stated, “Falls are one of the leading causes of death for construction workers.  Because of this, fall prevention is the hardest looked at area of OSHA compliance inspectors, resulting in the most citations.  These citations result in a considerable amount of monetary fines to construction companies.  This training will discuss methods that construction companies and their workers can take to lessen the chance of experiencing a fall while at the same time complying with the OSHA regulations.”
